30th Manitoba Marathon

I was there. No I didn't run but I was in the thick of things. Every Father's Day on our way to church, we would see the roads closed for the marathon and every time I think, wouldn't it be great to be there. There were about 14,000 participants and about 2,000 volunteers. I didn't want to run so I decided to volunteer. I had the best volunteer position!

My friend, Linsey and I were hosts, We just walked around the crowd before the start to answer any questions. Then we were placed at the start line of the half marathon to make sure the runners didn't trip over the equipment so I saw them take off. What an exciting place to be. Front row seats!! I was standing... Just like you see on TV except that I was there.

Once everyone was off, we moved over to the stadium towards the finish. There they put us on the path to guide the athletics back into the stadium. I was next to all the runner that came through. It was amazing to see the concentration on their faces. The determination! I saw lots of friends, all of them doing the half marathon. I keep thinking maybe I could do this, I just have to get over the fact that I have to run for over 2 hours for a half marathon, plus all that training time. Maybe someday, another goal?!?
